Happy Holidays!

Hi there! My name is Becky, and I'm a veterinarian living in lovely, historic, chilly Massachusetts with my husband and our odd collection of pets. This is my favorite time of year - no matter how ugly it is outside, somehow the season always seems to bring out the beautiful spirit in everyone I know and see. It's been a couple of years since I've participated in this community, but for some reason I've really been looking forward to it this year.

So, on to my wishes....

1) Donations to my team for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk For Breast Cancer Research
Three years ago I lost my godmother to breast cancer. This coming summer, my friend and I will be participating in the 3 Day - I'll be walking in her memory, and it would mean the world to me to raise as much money as possible to help make sure someday no one else has to go through a loss like that. Please, if you have anything to spare, think about making a donation - http://www.the3day.org/goto/drbecky - every little bit helps.

2) Bookmarks
I'm a serious bookworm, and I love bookmarks. I always need more, because I wind up using them to mark favorite passages in favorite books, and I love having all sorts of different ones. Colorful or simple, metal or string or decorated paper, fancy or handmade, I love them all.

3) Christmas tree ornaments
My husband and I just bought our first house two years ago, and have just started having our own Christmas tree, so we don't have a very big collection of ornaments to decorate it. And I've always loved eclectic trees with all sorts of different ornaments more than overly-formal trees with matching decorations.

4)Holiday recipes
I love to cook, and I love to try new things. Making holiday cookies is a major part of my celebration of the season, but I'll try almost anything. What does your family make special for the holidays? I'd especially love to get handwritten recipe cards through snail mail, but email works too, if that's easier.

5) Tea
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do have a serious tea habit, and I love trying different kinds and flavors of black tea. I'm partial to Yorkshire Gold, which is difficult as anything to find, but I have yet to find anything that I don't like.

6) Yarn, or Fleece
I crochet, and I've just taken up hand-spinning my own yarn as well. And since funds are kind of tight this year, I've been trying to be good and not buy myself any new yarn. But if you wanted to send me a skein of something - anything at all, I love both wacky novelty yarns and classic wool and fibers. Or if you're a hand-spinner and have some extra fleece you're never going to use and want to share it, I'd love to take it off your hands!

Thank you all so much, and I'm looking forward to seeing whose wishes I can grant! If you need my snail mail address, email me - becky@drbecky.net

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Wow you hand spin your own yarn? How difficult was it to learn how to do that? That's pretty awesome. :D Hat's off to you for that!

I have some quirky yarn, there's not a whole lot of it but there is a little I could send. It's different shades of green, if it doesn't matter what color. :D
I run an independent animal rescue/shelter in Illinois, and we couldn't do what we do without our wonderful vets, so....since I owe people in your profession a HUGE debt of gratitude, I can grant a couple of your wishes (wish I could do more, but I'm sure you know how tight the money is for *any* animal endeavors, particularly ones with NO funding)
I'd be happy to send you some tea (I'm also an addict!), and a couple of the bookmarks I make (and sell to help support the rescue/shelter). Email me at empressjad at aol dot com with your snail mail address, and please remind me which wishes I'm granting (since I'm doing about 40 at the moment...)
And bless you for what you do for animals!
Man, your love of Yorkshire tea amuses me. When my husband and I were dating my favourite teacher did his PhD in Huddersfield so he LOVED yorkshire tea. My husband brought over MANY boxes of it for him. :) Ah, memories.
