It's starting to feel a lot like...

Hi, everybody! I'm Lauren, a 20-year-old New Yorker who's obsessed with Harry Potter, busy writing her third novel for NaNoWriMo, and hopes to graduate college next year with a B.S. in Business Economics. =) I no longer use this journal, as I'm now over here, in case you're wondering. This is my 4th or 5th year participating in Holiday Wishes, and I can't wait to get started on granting some! Now, without further ado...

Lauren's 2009 Holiday Wishlist

1 // Christmas/holiday cards, postcards, letters, or any sort of snail-mail! I’ve asked for snail-mail every single year I’ve participated in Holiday Wishes, and I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to get something in the mailbox that’s not spam or a bill. It completely makes my day! (Thanks dances_withcats and devils_sidekick!)

2 // Anything Zachary Quinto related. And I mean ANYTHING, because I totally love this guy. Icons for my journal or any other kind of graphics, newspaper/magazine cutouts, posters, DVDs (preferably used/cheap) of any of the TV shows he’s been on (So noTORIous, Heroes, 24 [Season 3], etc.)… the only thing ZQ related that I own is the 2-disc special edition of Star Trek 2009 – which I love. <3

3 // Clothes for my BJDs. I own two ¼ size Asian ball-jointed dolls, both male (a Dollzone Xi and a modded Minifee El), who are in desperate need of some decent clothing, because my sewing skills are definitely not up to par. If you have any BJD clothes for males that size that you don’t want, or if you sew, knit, or crochet, I’d love anything you decided to send my way! Seriously, even a little scarf or something would be amazing. I’d be happy to provide you with any sort of measurements you might need. I do need items to be from a smoke-free home though, as I've got a smoke allergy and some breathing/lung problems. And these are my little men, in case you're curious. xD

4 // (Small balance/leftover) Gift cards to Target or Stop & Shop. I’m a typically poor college student who can’t afford a meal plan. As such, I go food shopping and cook for myself using the stovetop and oven in our lounge just about every night. If you have any giftcards to Target or Stop & Shop with a very small balance left on them that you don’t plan on using (even $0.25 - every little bit helps!), or feel like sending a giftcard for a small amount my way, it’d be awesome.

5 // Positive thoughts, good vibes, and/or prayers for my dog, Patches. Patches is an amazing English Springer Spaniel who’s been a part of my family since I was 6 years old, when he pulled on my shirt as we were picking out a puppy at the breeder’s. He’s a senior citizen now, having turned 14 last April, and in the past year and a half or so, he’s gone completely deaf. He’s slowly losing his eyesight, and he has very bad arthritis in his hips/back legs, so he has a very hard time getting around. He’s been really good to me, and though I know he can’t live forever, I want whatever time he has left to be a happy time for him – he more than deserves it. I’m hoping that his arthritis and eyesight loss doesn’t worsen, and that none of his other systems start failing. (Thanks neonstrawberi!)

6 // Tell me 5 things about you/your life/your experiences/your beliefs. There are billions of people in this world, and in our lifetimes, we only get to meet the tiniest fraction of them. I think that’s unfortunate, because I find people so incredibly interesting, since they’re all so different. If you’re willing to grant this wish, you can either leave your five things in a comment, e-mail me, or snail-mail me; anything works. (Thanks dances_withcats, dpadoftao, neonstrawberi, nothingtoyou, poeticgoddss, regretless_, and wenchamok!)

7 // Mix CDs. I listen to just about everything except for rap and excessively depressing country, including music in other languages. I’d love anything you’d be willing to send my way; I could really use some new music to listen to. (Thanks nothingtoyou and sanfuturo!)

8 // Chocolate/candy/prepackaged snacks from outside the United States. I love trying new things like this, and I think I’ve asked for snack food and such just about every year I’ve done Holiday Wishes. I’ve gotten some awesome stuff, and I never tire of trying things from new places. The only thing that I ask is that you don’t send anything containing meat/meat byproducts (for example, suet, gelatin, beef extract, etc.), because I’m a semi-vegetarian, so I can’t eat any of that stuff.

9// Health (physical and mental) for my family.

10 // This one’s the pipe dream that no one here can grant me, but I’d like to fall into a good, healthy romantic relationship, sooner rather than later. I haven't gotten to experience one of those yet (though I've had a couple of not-so-nice ones), and I'd really like to. I've also been single for over two years, which has made me very comfortable being independent, but I'm at the point where I'd really like to (and I'm really ready to) get involved with someone. I have someone in mind that I think would fit in wonderfully here, but… who knows! If anyone can send some of their good luck, positive thoughts, or hope a little bit for me, I’d really appreciate it.

You can e-mail me at goddessnyx[at] for my mailing address or anything else, or feel free to leave a comment with your e-mail address here and I'll get back to you. Also, if you're granting one of my wishes, please leave/send me a link to your own wishlist! I can't promise that there's anything I'll be able to do for you, but I'd like the opportunity to at least have a look at your list. =)

I'll be glad to send you a holiday card and five of my beliefs. Could you drop me an e-mail at janea at paws-and-effect dot com with your snail-mail address?
My five things:
1/ I believe in respect for all life, animal and human, and this shapes every aspect of the way that I live, from the food that I eat (I became vegetarian at 14 and it's still the best decision I ever made) to the jobs that I'll take. It has also led me into campaigning for better environmental protection, animal welfare, and human rights of all kinds. I try to live by my beliefs but in the real world sometimes I have to compromise and this makes me sad. When I see the state of the world, and my friends don't take even simple actions to help, it makes me feel like giving up and I often feel sadness and anger. Yet despite this I believe that 'It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness'.
2/ I don't have a religion, but I do believe in an afterlife, and in something greater than us, and in a meaning or purpose to life. I also think that we probably can't fully understand what this purpose is, much as a small child cannot understand algebra although it may try to make sense of the forms.
3/ Over the past few years I've been a carer for my partner who had a breakdown, and I've learned a lot about mental health issues and the discrimation that people face because of it. I've also learned firsthand that being a carer, without professional support, can result in ill health because of the constant stress. It's an issue that needs to be addressed and brought more into the open, but people want to ignore it because it's scary and disconcerting.
4/ I believe in judging and celebrating my own small victories, because sometimes small steps are hard to take.
5/ I believe that our lives are connected to others in ways we can't imagine, and that even the tiniest action can have huge consequences. I think that everyone should consider this and think more about their actions.

Well, there you are. Please remember these are just my beliefs, and I don't intend to offend anyone if their beliefs differ.

I can't send you a CD but i can email you some tracks if you'd like. Please email me at w.attwell @, with the subject line 'Holiday Wishes - Music'.

Happy Holidays!

Oh - and here's my list!
If you could email me with a mailing address and a link to this list that would be fabulous. :)
I'll be thinking fondly of your dog, and hoping for the best.

Also, 5 things:

1. I love lists. They sometimes seem to be the only thing that really keeps me grounded and organized.
2. I'm madly, wildly, happily in love with a man who I've been with for a day short of a year.
3. While I feel that being biracial has caused me an identity crisis as a child/adolescent, I am happy with who I turned out to be.
4. I'm very affectionate and pro-love in all its forms
5. Three things have largely shaped my life to its current point: Summer Camps I've attended/worked for, People I've met at said Summer Camps and the strong male friendships I cultivate and cherish.

Take care! Happy Holidays!

This is my own list:
Tell me 5 things about you/your life/your experiences/your beliefs.

1 - When I was 12 or 13, I saw a friend get hit by a car. It was a hit and run and he had to miss the rest of 7th grade. He broke his leg and had to go to physical therapy. This incident made me more careful about crossing the streets.

2- I love doing makeup on myself but would never want to become a makeup artist.

3- I tried cider for the first time yesterday and hated it.

4- I want to go skydiving one day.

5- I love learning about others as well so feel free to respond to my posting with your 5 things.
I can send you a card.

Please PM me with your address with Holiday Wishes: Card in the subject.
Five Random Facts About Me...
1) I love my job even though it's only seasonal and I know it's going to end on Christmas Eve.
2) I believe in love at first site because I've felt it, even if that was a long time ago and has since then faded.
3) I would do anything for a friend.
4) I spend so much time trying to live up to my mother's standards that sometimes I find myself rebelling against myself and I don't know why.
5) I could live off Diet Coke and cookie dough if I had to.

Now, please feel free to e-mail me at In the subject, put "holiday wishes" and in the body of the e-mail, in addition to your address, please write "holiday mail" so i remember what I planned on sending you.
Re: 6
Let's see, five things about me....

1. After 10 years in newspaper journalism (and a tanking job market there), I went back to school to be an x-ray tech. I love it. I never thought I'd end up in the medical field, but it's amazing. I just wish I could find a full-time job! :(

2. I am a lifelong Girl Scout. I started in first grade as a Brownie (no Daisies then), stayed all the way through high school and kept on after that. I bought a lifetime membership about 6 years ago, 7 maybe. It's one of the best parts of my life. I have so many good friends that I met at camp. And I took 2 big trips through Girl Scouting -- 2 weeks in New Mexico and 16 days in Hawaii. AWESOME!

3. I am a storm magnet. Scratch that, I think I've moved on to Goddess of Natural Disasters. I have been through an F5 tornado, 2 hurricanes, 2 flash flood evacuations while camping, and the 2 times I have been to New Mexico (ya know, the DESERT!), it either rained or snowed. I truly think that if I ever visit California, that's when the Big One will hit and the state will fall off into the ocean.

4. I've been happily Pagan for 10 years now. I love gazing at the moon and watching the sunrise and sunset and watching it rain.

5. I nearly died shortly after I was born. I was a week or two past due and had some breathing complications. I spent 11 days in the NICU, but pulled through. And have been pretty darn healthy ever since -- never been admitted to a hospital overnight, only been to the ER twice and had a minor foot surgery a couple years ago. That's it!
I sent you some music. Hope you enjoy it!

Happy Holidays!
drop me a pm with your addy and ill drop a card in the mail for ya :)

also, if you like reading fanfiction or would be interested trying one out, let me know. i have a wonderful harry potter link i can send you
I'd like to send you a letter. send me an email with your address please, And remind me to share 5 beliefs. :D
Five things about me and my beliefs:
1) I have amazing parents with whom I have an excellent relationship. They have been married 45 1/2 years and are still going strong. Very few of my friends have parents who are still together and I am very grateful for my luck in having the parents that I do.
2) I was raised Methodist, but I do not practice. I think that all people are good decent people until they prove otherwise by their words or actions. Meaning, I try to give everyone a fair shake and I have forgiven a lot from some dear friends in the past. I try to look at the big picture - if Bob hurt me, but I am pretty much over the hurt and my life would be enriched by having Bob in it again because I love him, perhaps Bob is worth completely forgiving.
3) I have a very dominant personality and find that folks often automatically defer to me (nothing serious, but little things). I have also been a Dom of the D/S sort, though only in private with the right person.
4) I actually like who I am. This took a LOT of work on my part, but I am a pretty decent person overall. There are still bits that need work, but I like me. I also never thought I would be able to say that, so I am pretty proud of my work. :)
5) I am a certified educator for (tasteful adult store, but probably NSFW) and I love it. I have become a mostly-unflappable person and I really enjoy being able to answer people's questions and make suggestions. It makes me feel like I am not only giving knowledge, but the potential for joy. :)

Happy Holidays!
